Angela Barnett is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice spans large-scale projections, interactive installations, performance art, video art, animation, live visuals, and illustration. Her work captivates audiences through immersive play, light, and interference, inviting viewers to experience art as an active, multi-sensory event.
Angela’s visual style juxtaposes bright, saturated colour with contrasting tones, and combines abstract forms with figurative elements to create striking, emotive compositions.

For the past five years, Angela has worked at Bunjil Place in Melbourne’s Southeast as the Outdoor Screen Co-ordinator, where she has produced screen-based events, exhibitions, workshops, and interactive installations. She has collaborated with major organisations including the Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne International Animation Festival, Multicultural Film Festival, Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Photo2020, tertiary institutions, arts organisations, and independent artists — bringing a diverse, engaging screen culture program to the local community.

Prior to her work at Bunjil Place, Angela was Artist in Residence at Cube 37, Frankston Arts Centre. She received the Emerging Producers in Communities (EPIC) grant from the Australia Council for the Arts and was selected as a key artist for the Experimenta Playground: 3rd International Biennial of Media Art (2007–2009). Her interactive installation Immersion won the ATOM Award for Best Multimedia. Barnett is also a three-time recipient of the Awesome Arts Creative Challenge commission in Western Australia.

Angela played a pivotal role in establishing the first Gertrude Street Projection Festival, where she was both an exhibiting artist and producer for over ten years.

Her works have been presented at major festivals and exhibitions including the Melbourne International Animation Festival, L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Experimenta Playground: 3rd International Biennial of Media Art, the International Symposium of Electronic Art (ISEA) in Singapore, the Lettre Amorsa Festival in Paris, and numerous editions of the Gertrude Street Projection Festival.

Angela’s works have been exhibited at leading venues such as the National Gallery of Victoria, BlackBox Gallery, Cube 37, Frankston Arts Centre, Carriageworks Performance Space in Sydney, Samstag Museum of Art in Adelaide, Sculpture Square in Singapore, and Punt in Barcelona.

Under the performance alias Pixel Angel, Angela performs live visual mixes both internationally — in Spain, Portugal, and Colombia — and locally across Australia. She has appeared at festivals and events including Subsonic Music Festival, Chi Wow Wah Town, The Enchanted Garden Party, The Sound Garden, Gertrude Street Projection Festival, and Rainbow Serpent Festival.
