Cinco Años

Cinco Años is a web-based interactive scrapbook that reflects Angela’s lived experience of five years in Barcelona, Spain. Created in 2005 as her major project for the Masters of Animation and Interactive Media (AIM) at RMIT University, the work explores memory, place, and everyday urban life through an interactive digital format.

Drawing on Barcelona’s vibrant street culture, Cinco Años incorporates visual and experiential elements inspired by street art, performance, protests, and public gatherings. These fragments of the city are assembled to pinpoint moments of personal and collective significance, creating a layered portrait of life in Barcelona as it was encountered and remembered.

The title, Cinco Años—Spanish for “five years”—marks both a duration and a process of immersion, reflecting how time shapes identity and belonging. Through interaction, the work invites viewers to navigate the city as a personal archive, blurring the boundaries between documentation and storytelling, and between public space and private memory.

A promotional trailer for Cinco Años was screened at the Melbourne International Animation Festival (2006) and the Lettre Amorsa Festival in Paris (2007).
